Water Process Engineer
Location: Scale Space London, W12 7RZ
Salary: £48,000 - £57,000
The opportunity
Our suite of adsorbent materials is adaptable across a range of applications. We are looking for a Water Process Engineer to play a vital role in the application development of our novel and innovative materials.
You will be responsible for supporting the design and execution of both in-house and external testing for these materials.
In this role, you’ll oversee multiple projects, so the ability to manage shifting priorities and mentor others is crucial.
As we build relationships with customers from diverse industries, you’ll engage directly with them to understand their technical needs and work closely with the engineering team to ensure the successful implementation of treatment systems.
This role is based in London and will require some global travel.
What you’ll be doing
- Specify and define the end-use of different adsorbent media for various applications through collaboration with the Product Development team
- Characterise media performance in various water scenarios at bench and pilot scale (e.g. drinking water, industrial, wastewater)
- Support a smooth transition from commercial introduction to on-site piloting in client-facing settings
- Design benchmarking experiments (e.g. batch and rapid small-scale column tests) to assess new materials or water matrices
- Support pilot development and oversee operations at various customer locations
- Ensure all operating procedures are standardised and clearly documented to support repeatability and effective data management
- Work with Product Development and Engineering to provide recommendations for full-scale implementation of treatment processes
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Health & Safety and Environmental policies and procedures for engineering projects
What you’ll need
- MEng in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering, or MSc/PhD in Environmental Science (with water experience)
- Experience in a relevant environment (e.g. start-up, R&D, pilot-scale testing, client-facing roles)
- Solid knowledge of conventional water filtration technologies, including selection and design
- Experience designing, commissioning and operating pilot plants
- Strong troubleshooting and data analysis skills
- Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills; able to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse colleagues and clients
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Desirable skills
- Experience using chemical process simulation software such as HYSYS
- Experience managing relationships with third parties, including collaborators and outsourcing partners
- Experience working in a start-up R&D environment
